St Francis Of Assisi, Bend
Aug 2009
I recently collaborated with a gifted sculptor, Tomasz Misztal, to create furniture for a new Catholic Church. He invited me to build the wooden elements; he was creating a terra cotta bas relief of the Last Supper, and other sacred pieces. The Church, and all of the furnishings were designed by architect, Bob Becker. Not being a church going-man, myself, It was interesting to be part of such a project for which my co-collaborator had so much passion. Regardless of the politics of the Catholics, I am gratified to have crafted beautiful furniture which will be held in reverence for generations to come.
With the Church nearly completed, I delivered the last of the liturgical furnishings.
An almost year long project came to a close. I was responsible for the Altar, Ambo, Lectern, Tabernacle, Presider’s Chair, Deacon’s Chair, Credence Table, Gift Table, two Confessional Screens, and four Benches for the Narthex.
Thank God, I didn’t have to make the Pews.
